Hard work pays off. Johnny and Allister saved up h Hard work pays off. Johnny and Allister saved up half their wages to buy this 2005 John Deere 6715, and Johnny started mowing with it yesterday.

We are cutting this bright green, fresh grass to pack away as hay for the cows to eat later next winter, while the herd enjoys grazing on the fresh spring pasture right now.

That lush spring grass makes all the difference in the flavor and richness of our milk and cream. Because we have an abundance of cream right now, we are running a sale at the farm store. This seasonal cream is perfect for churning into fresh butter or freezing for later. Stop by the shop to stock up! 🚜

Last week, we featured low and slow braised Short Rack Ribs, which are one of our lowest-priced meats and a true hidden gem. We gave them a dry rub and seared them on both sides before braising them until tender. They were smothered in a homemade “Rhubarbeetque” sauce made with rhubarb freshly harvested from @squirrelsnstuff207 farm, winter keepsake apples from Henrietta’s Homestead Orchard that held on strong all winter, @ironwoodorganic onions, and half a jar of @graciesgarden_ferments Buxton Beets.

The meal was served alongside:

- An Ironwood salad of spring mix and pea shoots.

- Creamy Misty Brook Black Turtle Beans.

- Freshly baked Misty Brook Farm cornbread and GF cornbread muffins made using a gluten-free and dairy-free King Arthur recipe.

- A house-made compound butter crafted with our farm butter and fresh ramps harvested from the garden.

Every Wednesday, our staff gathers together to connect as a team, eat the food we grow, and support other local food providers. Most of the ingredients can be found locally or in our farm store. Cheers to another great week ahead from the whole crew!

Moving the Herd Twice Daily: How Rotational Grazing Builds Soil and Nourishes Grass-Fed Beef This is the first in a series of blogs highlighting the daily work of our farmers and herds at Misty Brook. Last week in the Elwell Fields, we joined him as he moved a group of cattle from one section of pasture to the next. It’s a scene that plays out all across the farm, and while it may look simple, this steady rhythm is at the heart of…
